Dr. Scott Runnels is a plastic surgeon board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. His private plastic surgery practice is located centrally in the southeastern United States in the Jackson, Mississippi area. While his training involved all areas of plastic surgery, Dr. Runnels¹ special area of interest is in aesthetic/cosmetic plastic surgery of the face, breast, and body. Dr. Runnels is committed to further refining the art of plastic surgery through both clinical and basic research as well as education. Dr. Runnels is frequently asked to lecture to medical students, r esidents in training, and nurses as well as other private practice physicians to help further their understanding of plastic surgery. In addition to educating other medical professionals, he actively participates in nursing updates, women's workshops and health fairs. In addition to his cosmetic surgery practice, Dr. Runnels devotes a large amount of his time, energy, and resources to the fight against breast cancer. In fact, one of the things he is most proud of his breast cancer reconstructive practice and in helping women diagnosed with and treated for breast cancer along their journey in returning to normal lives. He is also an adamant supporter of breast cancer research and screening programs for underprivileged women as well as helping institute, promote, and fund a special automobile license plate for breast cancer awareness in Mississippi. Dr. Runnels¹ approach to aesthetic surgery owes its origin to his artistic background. He is a portrait artist with graphite on paper and is presently working with oils and acrylics on canvas. As an artist, Dr. Runnels was naturally drawn to plastic surgery. These inherent abilities combined with the rigors of medical training and board certification in plastic surgery have culminated in the ability to provide his patients with state of the art aesthetic surgery of the face, breast, and body. After training, Dr. Runnels returned to his home state of Mississippi where he lives with his wife and their three children. The Runnels¹ Clinic is conveniently located on the beautiful and appropriately named Mirror Lake and less than 5 minutes from the airport and major thoroughfares of I-55 and I-20 as well as downtown Jackson. It is also just minutes from the finest dining and hotel accommodations in the South. The Runnels¹ Clinic provides transportation service from the airport for out-of-town patients and overnight accommodations with private duty nurses are available. The office is warm and elegant contemporary and consults are individualized with pre and post operative literature customized for every patient. If you are looking for a plastic surgeon, the information on this page will help you choose the right doctor and clinic for your needs. Plastic Surgery has grown over the last few years to an unprecedented level of popularity as evidenced by a number of makeover hits on television. This is in large part due to the advances in both technology and surgical procedures that minimize scarring, reduce recovery time, and decrease risks. As a result, more physicians are entering the ³cosmetic² surgery specialty, not all of whom are qualified. The decision to have plastic surgery is a very personal and important one and requires a great deal of time and thought in choosing a plastic surgeon. Plastic surgery at its highest level requires physicians to undergo a rigorous and lengthy training. After graduation from an accredited medical school, a general surgery residency from three to six years is followed by another two or three years in specialized training in plastic surgery. Your surgeon should not only have completed this initial training requirement but also be board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. This further entails successful completion of comprehensive written and oral examinations given by the ABPS. Board certification is arduous and demanding enough that not all who are eligible to take these examinations become board certified. In addition to the strenuous scientific background, your surgeons natural artistic and technical abilities are equally important. As plastic surgery is as much an art as science, your surgeon should have an eye for aesthetics and give you artistic insight in helping develop your goals for self-improvement. Patience, compassion, integrity, and good communication are characteristics that are necessary for you to have as good and safe an experience possible. Your surgeon should be able to provide you with clear explanations of what surgeries will help you obtain your goals and which ones will not. This should also include review of pre and postoperative photos of previous surgeries. You should be able to ask any and all questions that you feel pertinent to your decision-making process and have all risks explained. This may require a second or third consult and/or a second opinion from another board certified plastic surgeon. Lastly, and most importantly, you should feel the surgeon and office staff care about you not only as a patient but as a person. The decision to have plastic surgery is a very important one, and should require a great deal of time and thought in choosing the right surgeon for you. |
